Will the majority of the Council be a rubber stamp for the Mayor?

There has been plenty of blog comments on Esslinger's actions with regard to refusing to reappoint long serving members of the Parks Board and Plan Commission.

I'd like this thread to focus on what you think the rest of the council will do... see NW editorial.  We can be pretty sure McHugh will side with Esslinger and I'd be surprised if Palmeri didn't vote with Esslinger too...those three seem to be a pretty tight "voting block".  I'm hopeful that King and Tower will not support the mayor in his "power grab" so that leaves Poeschl as the "swing vote" will he do the right thing and refuse to approve Esslinger's appointments or will he once again take direction from Palmeri and vote the same?  This vote could give us some insight as to how the vote to replace a council member will go.  I wouldn't be the farm on Poeschl but I do hold out hope he will do the right thing and reject Esslinger's power grab appointments.

Let's hope Poeschl has a mind of his own and uses it. But it was disappointing to see him "go along" with everyone else on a process for filling the 7th seat. That didn't instill much hope in me that he is an independent thinker. My money's on him "going along" with Palmeri on just about everything, the appointment recommendations too.

In reference to the headline of this story.

I SURE HOPE SO!!

"Poeschl as the "swing vote" will he do the right thing and refuse to approve Esslinger's appointments or will he once again take direction from Palmeri and vote the same?"

Well, that's your opinion. Others might day-

..will he do the right thing and approve Esslinger's appointments?

I voted for Paul, so I'm hoping Poeschl will vote with Palmeri and McHugh.

I sure the council will rubber stamp Esslinger! The guy is awesome. He actually takes on issues important to the community.

I'll leave you with this.

If the council in years past would have listened to Esslinger, we wouldn't be in such a mess. We are not in a mess because we were too conservative, we ARE in a mess because this council was TOO LIBERAL!

Class dismissed.

Agreed. The class is gone with Esslinger as mayor.

So...Castle had class?

Castle had class. Remember when he bragged about the NO BID bathrooms he and his rubber stamp council awarded to CR Meyer years back. Paying thousands extra for the work. With "competance" like this, who needs incompetance.

How about the class he displayed when he called the Department of Justice on a council member to get them to start an investigation on a council member, even though the council member acted off of direction of the District Attorney.

Thanks Paul for having the shoulders to stomach this change. We need you and the voters clearly rejected the Castle clone (Tower) in April and want you. Don't get detracted by the hatefilled naysayers that choose million $ parking lots in favor of police protection.

Some dolts should be banned from blogging. #1, you don't know what a naysayer is and just because you think you can turn the word around and use it on those that have used it on you, doesn't make your position look any less dumb. #2, pilice protection will not suffer if the parking lot gets done. Pandering Paul has said he wants to put the money into infrastructure, not police protection. #3, If the downtown is ever going to succeed it needs to look like something other than a dump. It's nice to see the kind of fools that support Esslinger.

All the naysayers are against Paul. They should stop their negative campaign and support our new Mayor. Don't listen to the naysayers Paul, you're doing a great job!

Anonymous said...

Yes he's doing a great job if taking us back to the 1800's is what you want. But doing that won't bring back the jobs from that era. You, Paul and the ones that think he's doing such a great job are trapped in a time warp.

Im4Paul said...

You are simply a naysayer and sourpuss. Just like our new President, we should support Paul and let him have a chance to fix the screw-ups of the last administration.

Try to have a more supportive attitude and be less of a naysayer.

Can you please tell us how he is not taking us backwards? Also, if you're going to keep blogging you really ought to learn what a naysayer is. Nay is another word for no and that is all Pandering Paul knows. That makes him the naysayers and you suport him so you must be one too. Not only does misery love company, so do naysayers.

1) The majority of voters said yes to Esslinger. You say No, so you're the naysayer.

2) Your "backwards" is the majority of voters forwards.

3) Naysayers tend to be whiners, you fit that profile.

4) Paul says yes to infrastructure spending first, so do the majority of voters.

5) You say misery loves company, so do naysayers, I say your name must be Misery Naysayer.

Such convolution may read like the funny column but that's all it is. Esslinger has everything backwards, as do you. He's a putz for turning down stimulus money that will go to someone else. And helping control storm water run-off wth a better parking lot and such is infrastructure too. It also helps reduce the possibility of flooding. It's probably too much to expect a short-sighted mayopr and his minions to get it. BTW, don't rest too long on those laurels of a month old election. He's already lost support with some of those who voted for him. Bye bye Pandering Paul in 2011.

You are in the minority here Naysayer.
The majority of voters cast votes for Esslinger, Monte, Schneider.
You seem to be on the wrong side of the majority in Oshkosh, maybe you should pack your little bags and move someplace where other naysayers whine and grumble.

You keep on believing what you want. Voter base is already losing ground for Esslinger. Becker scored some points by saying no to Esslinger and Monte, well, what can we say. She just keeps proving she's not as smart as she thinks she is. Can you say one term?

Paul is the Mayor. He won by a wide margin. You didn't vote for him. You candidate lost...you lost, your mad and angry and that has turned you into a naysayer. Go kick your dog and howl at the moon because you'll need to wait a few years to attempt to regain the "power".

"Voter based is already losing ground for Esslinger".

I sure hope Paul doesn't believe this nonsense. The ones writing this stuff are the Ted Bowens of the world who feel Elk exhibits inside cages are "progessive".

Paul, keep it up. Yer' doing awesome and the establisment are scurrying like rats when the exterminator shows up.

Seeing is believing, and always more accurate than having being narcissistic or dillusions of grandeur.

8:51,
You need not write about our past school board president as she no-longer holds that position.

Anonymous said...

You sure love Amy. You keep drawing parallels to her even when others are talking about the head of a different board. Or maybe you're just too dumb to figure it out?

Anonymous said...

Looks like he took direction from Palmeri and voted the same way.

Keep up the good work Paul. You've done more in your less than 2 months on the uncommon (more common with your on) than the previous two rubber stamping Mayors did in their 4 years combined.

And yeh, taxpayers NEED a million dollar parking lot. We are in a recession and streets are in disrepair and the establishment NEEDS a million dollar parking lotbehind a few businesses? Why not repave the parking lot? Why not eliminate the alley way? Remember when the parking lot actually had serviced businesses? Remember when exclusive Co. was thriving? Remember when WG&R was down there? Remember when bikeland was open?

Now we have next to NO businesses down there in comparision to years ago and NOW WE NEED a million dollar parking lot?

NEED.

Think about what a need is and then spend your own money on that. Don't waste my contribution!

Thanks Paul for actually having GUTS TO STAND UP TO these socialist leaning spenders!

No surprise to me why he creamed Frank "hairgel" Tower at the polls!

Anonymous said...

1) At least Frank has hair unlike Paul.
2) The money is not just for a parking lot, as you call it. It is also about infrastructure, something your beloved Paul has been harping about forever.
3) Everyone's needs are different. How dare you be so egotistical to believe they are all the same. Speak only for yourself and not the rest of us please.
4) Yup, Paul has done more (to cause demise to Oshkosh and give it a black eye) than the previous mayors before him. Don't think that's much of a bragging right though.

Don't you mean "Paul Pestlinger"? It's a much better name.

Ok children...

I thought this blog was going to remain respectable. Looks like it is turning into the same as all the rest.

Ah, but so much juvenile political maneuvering to talk about.
